Description
A genuine Standard Bank of South Africa Ltd. £1 note from the bank’s Salisbury (Rhodesia) branch, part of the 1919–1938 issue and printed by Waterlow & Sons of London. Marked “RHODESIAN ISSUE,” it features a standing Britannia with flag, shield, anchor and sheep, with a turreted-tiara portrait on the reverse. These private bank notes circulated as the Southern Rhodesian pound until the currency board took over note issuance in 1939, making this a sought-after piece of early Southern African paper currency for collectors of Rhodesia and Standard Bank issues alike.
