Description

A landmark release: a 2024 quarter-ounce gold Krugerrand bearing the “Oom Paul Press” privy mark, making it one of the final coins ever struck on the legendary press. Manufactured in 1891 and first used by the South African Mint in 1892, the Oom Paul press struck the very first Krugerrands in 1967 — it’s one of the oldest working coin presses in the world, now retired to the South African Reserve Bank as a museum piece. The privy mark, set above the springbok on the reverse, shows the press and the date 1892, and was hand-engraved into the die by the Mint’s engravers rather than laser-cut. Struck in a quarter ounce of 22-karat (91.67%) gold with the classic Paul Kruger and springbok design, the quarter ounce was limited to just 1,967 pieces — a nod to the 1967 debut year —making it a genuinely historic, low-mintage piece for serious Krugerrand collectors.
